OPENING NIGHT AT THE OPERA

So, what does one wear to the opening night gala at the opera? Well, that’s what I asked myself this past September, when I heard The Metropolitan Opera was kicking off its 2013-2014 season on September 23rd, with the premiere of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, a Russian opera about a fatal romance gone wrong (between Onegin and Tatiana, the main characters). Opening night gala at The Met is always a fashionable affair. Under the direction of the General Manager, the opening nights have also become a gift to New York City. In addition to the pricey opera seats, the opening night performances are broadcast live on huge outdoor video screens in Lincoln Center and Times Square for the people of New York to enjoy.
